I’m starting my 6-month-old on solids and honestly, I’m so overwhelmed with all the info out there! Do I try baby-led weaning (BLW) or stick with soups and purees? Is there a “right” way to do this? Should I be feeding only certain foods? How often should I introduce something new? Any tips or personal experiences would be so helpful, I just want to do what’s best but right now it all feels like too much
We tried BLW, and it was basically a festival of food flying everywhere. My kid once threw half an avocado at the dog. Still, they seemed to enjoy it, lol!
Hey Samantha! I totally get how overwhelming it feels. When I started with my baby, I freaked out a bit too, but here’s what worked for us: we started with purees for the first few weeks just to get them used to the idea of eating. Then, we slowly moved into some BLW with soft foods like banana slices and steamed broccoli. It gave us a nice balance between the two approaches.
A few things that helped:
Stick to one new food every 3-5 days so you can catch any potential allergies.
Don’t stress about how much they eat at the start, it’s more about exploring textures and tastes.
It’s okay if meals get messy! Embrace it as part of the learning process (we had a lot of bibs on hand!).
Trust your instincts and your baby’s cues. You’ve got this .
