My baby is in that stage of transitioning from breastfeeding to solid food, he's my first child. At first I was excited, but now I feel like it's quite a challenge. What to give him? How much? What if something hurts him? I get stressed because I want to

I’ve tried fruit and vegetable purees, but sometimes he rejects them and other times he seems to love them. I still don’t know if I’m varying enough or if I’m filling him up with the same thing. Besides, I’m afraid he’ll choke if I try to give him something with more texture. I’m having a hard time finding the balance between trusting my instinct and following the advice I read. Should I give him more homemade food or try those ready-made bags from the supermarket? There are days when I feel like I’m doing everything wrong, but I just want him to be healthy and happy while we learn together

I get it. My little one was the same with purees, some days they loved it, other days not so much lol

Girl I feel you! My baby went through the same thing, switching from breastfeeding to solids was sooo stressful at first. What worked for me was giving them a mix of homemade food and store, bought stuff. I noticed he did better with some variety. Purees are great to start but once they get used to it, try giving them small chunks of soft food to chew on. My baby loved mashed banana and sweet potatoes. And don’t stress too much about choking, I swear they’re tougher than we think, just make sure the pieces are small and easy to gum.

Same here, girl! It was really overwhelming when my baby started solids, trying to get the texture right, and making sure everything was safe. What helped me was introducing textures slowly. Start with those soft cooked veggies and then move to small chunks. And don’t worry if they reject something! My baby did that too but then went back to loving it a few days later. I personally stuck with homemade food but the store purees weren’t bad either. I just had to trust my gut, and sometimes it was trial and error

Okay, I hear you, this transition can be soooo tough, especially with your first baby! I went through the same thing and honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all. For us, I stuck with homemade purees but started adding a little more texture as we went on. Like, I’d mash up sweet potatoes or carrots a bit more than smooth, and I’d give her small pieces of soft fruit, like mashed avocado or soft cooked apples. As for the store, bought pouches, I used them for convenience, especially when we were on the go. They definitely have a place in the rotation, just don’t rely on them all the time. And seriously, don’t stress too much if he rejects something, it’s so normal. Eventually, they start liking a wider variety of things. Oh, and for choking fears, just be cautious with sizes of food. Small, soft, squishy stuff works best. You’ve got this!

Girl, my first child was exactly like this! I was terrified of choking too. My pediatrician told me to start with mashed or pureed food and then move to softer foods like soft cooked carrots or apples. I made sure the pieces were small enough so my baby could mush them up. I also tried some store-bought pouches, but I preferred making food at home for the most part. My biggest advice? Go slow. Some days they’re going to love it, other days they’ll hate it, and that’s totally okay. Just keep trying different foods and textures, and you’ll get there!

I totally understand your stress! I felt the same way with my first baby. I remember trying so many different purees and some days he’d love them, other days, he’d totally reject them. It took time for us to get into a rhythm, but eventually, I just started trusting the process more. What really helped me was focusing on texture more gradually, like mashing foods instead of pureeing them completely. And as for choking, just be sure to introduce foods like small bits of avocado or banana first, things that are easy to mush. My little one is now a champion eater at 2 years old, and all the stress was totally worth it in the end. Don’t worry, you’ll find your groove and he’s in good hands with you!

Thank you so much, everyone! You all made me feel a little less stressed about it. I think I’ll try mixing up some textures gradually and keep a few store-bought pouches for those busy days. And I’ll definitely try to trust my gut more! Thanks again for all the helpful advice, I really needed to hear that I’m not alone in this.

I completely get what you’re going through! My son had a phase where he’d just reject all the purees, then love it the next day. It was soooo frustrating, but I realized that his preferences changed constantly. What I found super helpful was slowly introducing different textures and not overthinking it. For a while, I stuck with the classic mashed veggies, and then slowly added soft foods like scrambled egg, avocado, and toast with a thin spread. It was a slow transition but worked! I’ve also read that store-bought food is perfectly fine as long as it’s balanced, so don’t feel guilty if you need to use it. The key is to not stress too much, babies are resilient and figure it out in their own time.
