Potty training hopeful, but how long?

Hi everyone! I’m starting to potty train my 24-month-old and I’m feeling hopeful but also wondering, how long did it take for your little ones to really get it? I’ve heard so many different timelines, and I’d love to hear your experiences! Did any strategies help speed things up, or was it all about patience? :crossed_fingers:

Honestly, it took us about 3 months to get into a good rhythm, but every child is different! The key is not giving up, even if it feels slow at first. I promise, one day it just clicks! Hang in there.

For us, having a little potty available everywhere made all the difference! We also let our daughter watch us use the bathroom, which made her curious to try it herself. It’s all about modeling and lots of encouragement.

Lol, potty training feels like teaching a cat to swim some days. My kiddo was all in one week and then totally forgot what a potty was the next.!

We hit a breakthrough after about 6 weeks when we switched to underwear instead of pull-ups. That feeling of “oops, I’m wet” seemed to make a big difference! The accidents aren’t fun, but it’s part of the process. Just keep cheering on every little success, and it’ll happen before you know it!

I feel you. It can be so draining! We had some good days and some what is even happening days. My only advice is to remind yourself it’s a phase it won’t last forever, and every kid gets there eventually.

If you haven’t already, I recommend trying a reward system. We used stickers on a chart, and after a few stickers, we’d celebrate with something small, like an extra bedtime story. It gave our kid some extra motivation to try. And like everything, lots of patience helps!

It took us about three months before my son was fully trained, and even then, accidents would happen. I get it…it’s exhausting! Some days it felt like progress and other days we were back to square one. Just know it’s totally normal to feel frustrated, but it does get easier. Hang in there. You’re doing great.

We’ve gone through it twice and I can say there’s no magic timeline. For my daughter it took about two weeks but with my son it was longer, it was more like four months. A few things helped us: 1) letting them pick out their underwear (made them excited), 2) using a sticker chart for motivation, and 3) keeping it relaxed accidents happen! One tip: If things aren’t clicking don’t stress. You can always pause and try again in a few weeks.

My daughter is 2 and just starting too. Some days she seems interested and other days, she wants nothing to do with the potty. Have you tried pull-ups, or are you going straight to underwear? We’re not sure which route is best…curious what’s working for others.
