When do they stop taking naps?

Hey everyone! I’m a dad of an almost 2 year old boy who loves his naps, and honestly, my partner and I cherish those little breaks too. It gives us a chance to catch our breath and get some things done or just have a quiet moment with coffee. I’ve heard naps start to phase out eventually, and I’m just wondering… when does that usually happen? Should we be bracing ourselves for nap free days soon?

Oh man, my 2.5 year old still takes naps most days, but I’m already seeing them get shorter and less reliable. Cherish every nap while you can! Once they’re gone, that quiet time turns into full on playtime (or meltdown time).

Hey Jose. From my experience, kids drop their naps anywhere between 2.5 to 4 years old, but it really depends on the child. My oldest was done with naps by 3, but my youngest kept napping until 4. One trick that worked for us was implementing “quiet time” even after naps were gone basically, they’d stay in their room with books or quiet toys for an hour. It gave us a breather and sometimes even resulted in a sneaky little nap anyway! So even if naps disappear, you can still carve out some downtime.

I feel you, Jose. My son dropped his naps around 3 and it was like the end of an era. We were NOT ready, lol. The house suddenly felt louder and busier. Honestly, it’s okay to mourn the loss of that peaceful time. Hang in there…you’ll find a new rhythm soon enough.
