Is anyone else dealing with a baby who thinks naps are optional? My 6 month old will not nap for more than 30 minutes at a time, and I am just sooo tired and need more mre me time. Am I missing something magical that all the other moms know about to get longer naps? Any advice or just someone to commiserate with would be great!
I feel like short naps are some kind of cruel baby joke. My first kid was the same. I’d finally sit down with my coffee and it’s like she knewww and woke up I tried blackout curtains, white noise, and even tried offering a bribe but lol, she was 6 months, so didn’t work. Hang in there!
Yes, 30 min naps are very common at this stage because babies go through short sleep cycles. Around 6 months, they’re still learning how to connect those cycles. One thing that helped us was making sure my baby was getting enough awake time before naps… sometimes they need a bit more stimulation before they’re ready for a longer rest. We also used a consistent nap routine with white noise, a sleep sack, and a dark room, which over time helped stretch those naps. It can take a bit of trial and error, but with consistency things do improve, I promise!
I was there and yes it does get better! My little one was exactly like this around 6 months. I was sooo sleep deprived. But around 7-8 months, he started napping longer, and it was like night and day. Keep consistent with your nap routine and give yourself grace. One day you’ll be able to finish that cup of coffee without hearing the dreaded baby monitor beep! Hang in there, you’re doing great!
