How to motivate my 10-year-old to be more active?

My 10-year-old son has recently become super resistant to anything that involves moving around. I suggest going for a walk, riding bikes, even playing catch, and the response is always “not now” or “not in the mood.” I think if it wasn’t for school and me pulling him outside every once in a while, he’d sit still all day! Any suggestions on how to encourage him without making it a fight?

Maybe try finding something new that he hasn’t done before? My daughter was the same around that age, and then she discovered rock climbing of all things. It’s like she needed a new challenge to get excited about.

My daughter was much the same, but if we involve animals in some way, she’s much more willing. She loves horseback riding, and it’s surprisingly good exercise. Also, she’s always willing to take the dog on a walk or play with him at the park. Another option is to involve his friends- our kiddo is much more willing to play outside with her friends than with us. We just have to invite a few over and kick them outside, haha.
