Are we relying too much on the smartphone?

Our 10 YO spends a lot of time on his phone, playing games, watching videos, even messaging friends. While it keeps him busy, he gets grumpy when it’s time to stop and has a harder time focusing on other things like homework or family time. Do we need to step in and set some limits. Anyone else facing this? How do you manage screen time?

We’re in the same boat! My son gets so wrapped up in his tablet that pulling him away feels like starting a war. We’ve been experimenting with setting a “tech free hour” after school, and it’s slowly helping. It’s tough though bc these devices are so engaging, sometimes I’m tempted to join him and binge-watch videos too

We are definitely struggling with this too. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle. The pushback is real. It’s exhausting, and I often end up second-guessing myself. No easy answers here, but you’re not alone in this fight!

Same here. Our 10 YO also gets so grumpy when screen time is up, it’s like dealing with a different kid! Have you tried any specific schedules for screen time? We’re wondering if setting clearer boundaries would work, but not sure where to start. Would love to hear if anyone’s had success with a particular approach.

We went through this exact phase. What helped was creating a schedule where screen time was earned after certain tasks were completed like homework, chores, etc. We also introduced device free zones like the dining table and family room. Initially, there were lots of complaints, but over time, our kid got used to it and even started reading more. Maybe start small and build from there? Good luck!
